Beautiful video from Father Murphy. I was pointed to this by PZ, and I was immediately taken with the muted funeral dirge type sound. These guys can’t possibly sound this good live, but you never know. The track is epic, and the art direction is up to the challenge. Normal days, you’ll catch Bill playing lead in his Austin-flavored psych rock band Sunset, but clearly the guy has wider interests. I love this dreamy, colorful video - degradation of light, shot on 8mm film of Times Square billboards. The track is from his just released Silence! LP, available on cd and vinyl from Autobus Records.

A feeling so ethereal, so ghostly, you’d wonder if you ever even heard it. With faintly landing percussion, and droning organs, Gospels is giving us something dark and murmuring to believe in. Apparition will be on their upcoming full-length Frames of Reference out on Hand Rolled Gold this fall.

Brooklynská skupinaZs bola založená v roku 2000 a počas svojej existencie vystupovala ako trio, sextet a kvartet. V súčasnej dobe sa ustálilo zloženie Sam Hillmer (tenorsaxofón), Ben Greenberg (elektrická gitara), Amnon Freidlin (elektrická gitara) a Ian Antonio (bicie). Hudobne a žánrovo ťažko zaraditeľní inštrumentalisti sa s prehľadom pohybujú okolo obľúbených škatuliek ako free noise, experimental, post-jazz a brutal-chamber music. Pre Zs je však najpríznačnejšia hudobná rozdvojenosť, nakoľko ich tvorba strieda hudobné postupy prameniace zo súčasnej avantgardnej vážnej hudby a zároveň je pretkaná noise-rockovými konvenciami. Preto má táto skupina dve tváre - komorný hudobný ansámbel a súčasne avant-rocková kapela. Z ich otvoreného prístupu vyplýva aj množstvo rôznorodých hudobných spoluprác, ktoré majú Zs za sebou. Okrem spolupráce so skupinou Gang Gang Dance (kolegami, ktorí takisto vydávajú na brooklynskom labely The Social Registry) spolupracovali s dnes už mainstreamovými Animal Collective, noise-metalovými Orthrelm, noise-rockovými Aa alebo s The Flying Luttenbachers. Spolupracovali aj so skladateľskými osobnosťami ako napríklad Joe Maneri, Christian Wolff, Louis Andriessen alebo dokonca s Petrem Kotíkem, českým rodákom pôsobiacim v New Yorku.
Zs svoju hudbu vydávali na niekoľkých amerických nezávislých labeloch - Troubleman unlimited, Planaria Recordings, Folding Cassettes, Rice control a nakoniec na The Social Registry, kde začiatkom mája tohto roku vydali album New Slaves, ktorý spoločne s VJkou Laurou Paris predstavia 9. augusta v Dome umenia mesta Brna.
